What is A Proper Sympathy Gift?

It's difficult to know how to provide comfort and show your support when a friend or a loved one is grieving the loss of a child. A personalized gift is always a fitting choice. The best gift is the one that has been chosen and given from your heart, one that can bring comfort and memories during the lonely times when they want to reminisce.

Flowers are always a good choice, but if you want something more personal the following list may help.

A Plant- A Peace Lily, African Violets or a Teardrop Ivy are good choices (lasts longer than flowers)
Family Jewelry personalized with the child's birthstone or the entire family's birthstones.
Food Gift Basket with a personalized note from you (many online sources have an area for you to fill out a short note to the family.
Plant a tree and include a memorial plaque at the trunk.
Memory Box to include precious keepsakes.
Shadowbox to display keepsakes.
Journal for memories
Music CD
Artwork - Angels and butterflies are comforting for many parents.
Garden Memorial Plaques, Benches or Stepping Stones
A Book on Grief (preferably one that has to do with their circumstance)
Book of Poems
A Poem Written by You
Have Silicone Wristbands/Bracelets made in honor of the child (or to raise awareness of a certain cause related to the child) and give out to family and friends.

Stay in touch with the family by personally making contact with them. This may be the cheapest gift, but it is quite possibly the best gift anyone can give.
